Mr. Hilts is an environmental engineer with 26 years of experience—all at CDM Smith—in the planning, design, construction and commissioning of water reclamation and CSO treatment facilities, including traditional and design-build delivery. In the last 15 years, Mr. Hilts has focused his efforts on disinfection technologies, both mature and innovative, such as chlorination/dechlorination, UV, ozone, peracetic acid (PAA) and performic acid (PFA) in an effort to help utilities find the best solution to meet their financial, operational, maintenance, and regulatory needs. He is CDM Smith’s Water Reclamation Disinfection Discipline Leader and is the Chair of the WEF Disinfection and Public Health Community, which allow him to stay current on the trends in the water reclamation disinfection industry and the regulations that impact that industry. In addition, he is the Principal Investigator of WRF project 5274, Evaluating the Impacts of DAS on Disinfection Efficacy. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Environmental Engineering from the University of Nebraska.
