John Barnes is a Mechanical Engineer at Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), the 6th largest community-owned, not-for-profit electric utility in the United States. He manages the Custom Retrofit commercial incentive program which provides financial incentives and design assistance to Sacramento’s large commercial and industrial customers for energy saving projects. As the Custom Retrofit program manager, John has focused on supporting Sacramento Area Sewer District’s large and complex energy savings initiatives, improving the region’s efficiency and reliability. Prior to joining SMUD, John worked on building energy research and utility program evaluation for a firm in Sacramento.
