Presentation Description: Inflow and infiltration is a pervasive problem in the operation of a wastewater collection system. A new, patented approach to finding sources of I&I has recently been adopted by operators across the country. This presentation will show how this approach was used by the San Rafael Sanitary District to locate and prioritize sources of significant I&I in their system. We will also show how I&I data can be integrated with flow data and manhole modeling to provide a holistic view of spill risks in a collection system.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, class participants will be able to list current approaches to I&I locating and prioritization such as smoke testing, CCTV, and flow isolation.
Upon completion, class participants will be able to describe a new method for I&I locating that uses data, high-density sensor networks, and manhole modeling to prioritize sources of I&I.
Class participants will be able to list California cities that have used this approach. This knowledge will allow them to talk to their peers from those cities to learn more.
